Today May Not Be Good, But Tomorrow Can Be Better

It was around 12 noon as we sat in a hotel in Nyeri for lunch, and for interview with David Mambo. Mambo is a fast rising Gospel musician. David Mambo was born in Kamoko Mahiga in Othaya as a third born in a family of six. Born to Evanson Ndung’u  and Hannah Wanjiku, he joined Kamoko primary school where he discovered his singing talent. His teacher always highlighted him in every session in school. His father, being a pastor in an independent Church raised him in a God fearing manner.

After primary school, he joined Othaya Boys High School, but dropped out due to lack of school fees. He then joined Gachatha Day High School where he struggled until he sat for his KCSE in 2005. He started his hustles after his dream of joining college collapsed. He started doing all sorts of menial jobs in people’s farms for peanuts. He would also work for credit whereby up to date, there are people who still owe him money.

Having a strong Christian background, he kept on seeking God. In the process, he got a job at Mukurwe-ini for a salary of Ksh. 2500 which was barely enough for his expenses. He found it hard to even save for house rent. His salary later went up to 7500. His life started becoming beautiful, but little did he know that the devil was not happy. He was promoted to become a manager in the same station but the other workers started diverting money to other sources without his knowledge. He would use his own money to cover for the difference until he lost patience because he became bankrupt. He tendered his resignation and explained to his boss what had been happening.

The boss urged him to continue for he had no problem with him. He then planned to go to Germany where he had received an invitation, but he had no money. During this period, he had released his first album ‘Ndahoya’ (I pray). It was not yet popular with people. He then planned its launch so that he could popularise it and also get money to go to Germany.

He organised the launch of the album at PCEA Muhito in Mukurwe-ini. He invited many people from all walks of life; friends and even members of parliament to grace the occasion. When the day finally came, he could not stop but marvel at God’s favour towards him as scores of people attended the launch. They contributed money in amount that he had never dreamt of before. His boss, Charles Kaburu gave an amount of contribution that David could not believe, such that he changed his mind of going to Germany so that he could continue working with him.

After the launch, he got money that helped him start his own electronics business, though he continued working in the petrol station. The money disappearance was still a mystery at the petrol station. Later, it was discovered how the money used to disappear. It pained his boss that the workers were stealing the money so that they could fix David. However, David pleaded with his boss to forgive them for there is power in forgiveness.

It was this experience that inspired David to sing the song Rucio Ruitu. It was to tell his enemies not to make fun of him, that though his today would not be good, tomorrow would be better. The song was an instant hit and he thanks God for letting him pass through pain and later making him graze in green pastures of His grace. He thanks God for making him establish contacts with reputable spiritual fathers like Charles King’ori who recorded his song, and N.D Guthuka who gives him words of wisdom and encouragement. He prays for God’s blessings to follow them always.

David Mambo is a living example that God pays and lifts people from the ground. He is now in the process of recording his new album, Aria na Ithui telling God to talk to us for we have heard more from politicians than from God Himself. God has been together with him for there was even a time that robbers attacked his work place but never got to see where the money was kept. “God can make those who can see go blind in order to protect His people,” he says.

After the robbers left, he cried for the Lord of miracles for working in his life. “Truly, we should all serve Him forever,” he advices us. Mambo’s vision is to go all over the world and preach the word of God through music, and tell people about the wonders of God.
